"Be present in all things, and thankful for all things"- Maya Angelo

September has flown by here at the Cissell household! I didn't even know Labor Day had passed (honestly!) so apparently I haven't been present for September. September means Fall time in our home! Our favorite season :) It's so much easier to do stuff with the girls, because it's not too hot, or too cold yet! We love Fall! Our sweet Ivie Mae is experiencing her first Fall :) She has quite a bit of body fat, so the temperature drops haven't affected her much! She turned 6 months yesterday. For a second I wanted to sob and feel sorry for myself that I no longer have a tiny baby anymore, but she is so much fun right now and the sweetest, so no need to feel sad ;) I can tell for the first time that she was born early. She isn't quiet doing what other six month olds are doing, but me of all people knows to not compare! She is working on sitting, but tumbles forward Everytime, she has found her tootsies, she is still sleeping solid in her crib every night, she is screeching nd hooting very loudly for all to hear, and she loves, loves, loves, putting things in her mouth. She even had a little taste of water from her sisters sippy and loved it! My, how times are a changing! Ivie has been such a blessing to our family! She is the easiest, cutest, happiest, little dolly you will ever see :) we fall in love with her daily. She has been a huge blessing! Happy six months love bug! Fall is also so good for Zoie. We don't have to worry about her overheating outside, or getting dehydrated from loosing too much sly fr sweating. Fall for Zoie also means picking back up on all of our therapies :) we have added music therapy to this mix this year as well! She loved watching the guitar and hearing the Sesame Street song. Of course it made her dance! Music does something to Zoie that nothing else can. It makes her SO happy! We look forward to seeing what this does for her! We also started a preschool book that her and I work on a few times a week. So far we have colored apples red, and balloons blue. I started thinking that we need to start looking at the preschools available for Zoie here in the next few months, and it sorta have me anxiety! I know we will find the perfect one with time, but I'm not quite ready. So, starting to work on a few things while at home is perfect for now. Fall also means some of our favorite tv shows! I should say, my favorite shows! I am so focused on the girls all day, it's really nice to have a "feel good" show to look forward to! Some of my faves are Greys, parenthood, and the voice . I cry with all three of them so somehow they are touching my heart ;) We did our first ever Fall photo shoot last weekend! It's always a lot, I mean a lot of work, but once we see those pics, it's all worth it ;) we are blessed by an awesome family friend who understands our families needs and is so patient and flexible with us! This time Zoie wasn't the problem, but Ivie wouldn't stop looking down at the long grass! By the time we get the picture done, I'm sweating because I have a sweater on in 80 degree weather :) just trying to make the picture "fallish." I can't wait to see these, but they are going on our Christmas cards, so all of you will have to wait a few months! This weekend we are doing our "fall decorating" and it's in order to search for some Halloween Jammie's for both girls! I feel like A bad mom if they don't have them.... One of those, you only live once and we need that picture moments :) From our family to yours, here's to a happy Sept and the start of Oct! Don't forget, this Fall, be present for all things and thankful for all things!

A letter to my daughter on your first day, of your first year of school.

I remember when you were born, 4 very short years ago. School wasn't even in your dad and I's minds. It's almost as if we forgot that when you have a child, part of them growing up is sending them off to school. You would think this would have crossed my mind being an Elementary Ed Grad, but we were so caught up in the now, and making sure we took our lives day by day, that no, school never came up. We decided to keep you home for your first year of preschool, due to your Cystic Fibrosis and learning delays. We wanted to strengthen your immune system an extra year, keep working on home therapies to help your brain development, speech, and muscle movement. You also had a very special friend at home to learn and grow with you; your baby sister Ivie. The last year you two have taught each other so much, she has pushed you, and you have pushed her. I'm so thankful we kept you home for that extra year! We have found a great preschool for you! It's called the Monroe Ear

That extra Chromosome 21

My original OB doc sat me down 8 weeks ago and told me she wanted me to see a specialist for our 20 weeks ultrasound. Not because there were any factors pointing to abnormalities, but because I'm one of those weird people, who no matter what we do, we get thrown curve balls when it comes to pregnancies and births. Walking into that appointment today, Derik and I had zero fears, and zero doubts that everything was going to be perfect. And perfect she was! 10 little fingers, 10 little toes, a big ol' noggin, 4 chambers on her heart, and she was moving like crazy. Let me back up and say that Derik and I took the necessary steps we felt we needed to to ensure that we have a healthy baby. But, we also know, that in the end, God is in full control and it's His plan. Always! So, after looking Charlie Fae over, our doctor proceeded to tell us that she has a white spot on her heart. It's not small, but it's also not large. This white spot is a sign of Downs Syndrome. I can&#

Real and raw emotions

My name is Lindsey. I'm a wife. I'm a special needs mom. I'm a regular mom. I'm a friend, a daughter, a sister, and a believer in God and miracles. Bedore you question why I'm writing this, let's just say that writing helps me, it's like a form of counseling, plus, both my girls are tucked into their beds sound asleep and I felt the need to share what happened today. Going back to being a believer, I used to be SO good at closing my eyes every night and thanking God for giving me another day with both of my daughters and my husband. I started this prayer (it's a simple one) when Zoie went a few nights a year or so ago, with seizures that lasted all night long, and I had to sit up and watch her, just to make sure she was still breathing. It made me thankful, for the simplest things in life. As time went on, and "bad" stuff doesn't happen, you forget to be thankful for the simple in life, the things that truly matter. Today was a normal day.
